Interfaculty Sports Championship

Each year, University of Auckland Sport run the Interfaculty Sports Championship, allowing students to represent their faculty across various sports.

This year, for the first time since 2019 faculties competed against each other across 17 different sports tournaments, allowing University of Auckland Sport to deliver a full year of programmes without Covid-19 disruptions.

This year saw the return of Ki O Rahi, Badminton, Rugby 10s, Netball, and Hockey, all sports that have not been played since 2019 or 2020. For the first time in the University of Auckland Sports history, Interfaculty Volleyball was split into two divisions with Commerce Cougars taking the cup for the Men’s division and Arts Alligators for the Women’s division.

This year Volleyball and Netball finals happened in Semester Two, including the Show Men’s Netball Game where staff played against students. Staff took the win but there’s room for a comeback for students next year.

We also saw the rise of Science Spartans challenging the Engineering Eagles with several appearances in the top 4 spaces as they battled for the Colin Maiden Shield. CAI Narwhals reintroduced themselves with four plate wins and came second-place win in Ki O Rahi, a novelty for the faculty. We saw the participation of over 800 students and up to 700 supporters across the 17 tournaments.

After a great year the Science Spartans finished at the top of the podium taking home the Sir Colin Maiden Shield, along with the title of Interfaculty Sports Champions for 2022.
