Alumni: Words of Wisdom

Each year, we ask our alumni to pass on their ‘words of wisdom’. We even include some bite sized ones in fortune cookies at graduation. Find the words that speak to you.

“My biggest learning has been the importance of keeping things in perspective. The people you’re working with and choosing to spend your time with, the relationships fostered between yourself and others is what really counts.”

Matty Blomfield, 40 Under 40 2021: Entrepreneur

Arts & Business, Class of 2011

"There are lots of ways to contribute to improving people's lives. Given the right conditions, everyone has something meaningful to contribute to the world, but there are lots of systems and structures that get in the way of people thriving."

Emma Blomkamp, 40 Under 40 2021: Influencer

Arts, Class of 2014

“Saying yes to opportunities you feel a bit underprepared for is a great way to lean into discomfort and learn new skills!”

Imche Fourie, 40 Under 40 2021: Disruptor and Innovator

Science, Class of 2018

“Don’t aspire to be liked by everyone else – it’s not possible and it’ll become a distraction. Aspire to be respected for who you are instead.”

Sarah Liu, 40 Under 40 2021: Business Leader

Arts & Science, 2008

We have hundreds of alumni who have put their hands up to help, representing over a hundred different industries and locations.

“I’m always happy to find ways to give back. I was pleased to see the Alumni Connect platform made available as a way for students to connect with alumni who can provide advice and mentoring in their field.”
